Dental Benefits - Use It or Lose It

You may have the impression your Flexible Spending Account (FSA) dental benefits will roll over into next year. The fact is whatever money you “don’t use, you lose”.

Who do you lose it too?

Typically, the owner of the FSA, who is most likely your employer. Or, if you have insurance, you may think you won’t leave any money on the table because your dental insurance is through your employer. If you don’t use the insurance, you and your employer are wasting upfront premiums you’ve already paid.  Plus, if you reached your deductible, you may have missed an opportunity to pay for needed services with a small out-of-pocket expense.

Make Your Dental Benefits Work For You

You have between now and the end of the year to take action. Here are some ideas:

  • Figure out how much money you have left in your FSA, HSA or your insurance deductible
  • Next, assess all the medical-related things you may need such as dental work
  • If you determine you want to address dental related issues Contact Us or Call 301-249-3333 and ask to speak to our front desk receptionist

The Goal Is to Improve Your Oral Health

Prevention is better than the cure. That goes for your pocketbook and your health. Most dental insurance plans pay 100% for one or two dental cleanings and preventive visits per year. Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA’s) and Health Spending Accounts (HSA’s) generally cover dental checkups too! If you haven’t had a dental checkup we encourage you to schedule one now.

We can help you identify the best way to use your dental insurance, FSA and HSA monies to fund more extensive dental services. Fillings, root canals and dental implants can have lower out-of-pocket costs depending on the status of your insurance deductible.

Braces, Invisalign, sore guards, night guards and elective procedures like veneers and teeth whitening may be possible through FSA and HSA funds.

We may even be able to use options in your FSA to make necessary services affordable. Some plans allow a grace period of up to 2½ extra months or carry over up to $500 per year to the following year.

Let us help you assess your current insurance and FSA/HSA status. Contact our office at 301-249-3333 to determine what funds are available and for what services.

We want to give you a reason to smile!
